Battery Tray Fix
Another weak design of the Fiero is the Battery tray
Over the years of water leaking and battery acid these things
rust like the Titanic. Mine was nearly all gone. Now you have two options.
# 1 order a new assembly from The Fiero Store
Part # 50254 $ 89.95
This is the whole assembly with the plastic side plate thingy
90 bucks plus shipping so about $105.00 total
and you have to know how to use a cutting torch and welder
The original tray was welded in and the new one will also have to be welded. Now I have no clue how to weld and the idea of a fire in the engine compartment not a good thought. Fire, Fiero , Where have I heard that before?
So here is my solution option #2
Pretty simple design actually . The tray came from Rural King , "Not sure if they are everywhere but it's a farm supply store"
Their is only two pieces to buy if you still have your plastic side battery cover thingy
Rubber Coated Battery Tray $ 7.00
Battery hold down strap kit $5.00
12 Piece of Angle Iron Lowe's $4.00
Also a few assorted small bolts and nuts I had , Maybe a couple bucks to buy total cost less than $20 with gas included to get parts .
The assembly is pretty simple too . I think from the pics you can get the basics of what I did." If not you probably could not do it anyway"
Notice in the pic with a wire attached to a wrench in the finder its just a procaution so I dont loose the wrench in there and have to take more crap apart or listen to it rattle for years.
With it done the battery is very secure and looks close to the original design" For all of those of you who are anal about that ."
Better do a disclaimer:
I am not responsible for any damage to your Fiero or your person or anyone else near the car from the design of this battery tray.
I believe this is a secure way to mount the battery and I will update in the future after some road testing if I am wrong
